Multimap Open API

Welcome to the Multimap Open API.

Multimap's Open API has been created for developers to innovate, experiment and try things out. This can include prototypes, mash-ups and other web-based services.

The spirit of the API is to foster innovation. To that end, we will contribute free transactions to the tune of 5% of our public site traffic. If that sounds a lot, that's because it is. If it doesn't sound a lot, bear in mind that we provide a global service delivering more maps, directions, address look-ups and searches than anyone else in Europe.

In the spirit of the community, individual users can use up to 1% of the community's total traffic. If you are using a disproportionate amount of the community's transactions, we may be in touch to discuss how we can work together to help you grow.

Multimap's Open API is intended for experimentation and innovation for the community of developers, whether you work for a company, or are doing your own thing. We encourage developers anywhere to sign up and build services with our Open API and look forward to seeing the innovative ways in which you use the Multimap API.

The Open API gives you free access to:

  • Draggable maps with 'fast fill' smooth zooming
  • Suite of widgets (including location breadcrumbs, overview map, map tools, zoom slider)
  • Custom right-click menus, map interactions and events
  • Custom markers with automatic 'de-clutter' for handling display of large numbers of points, tabbed info boxes, dynamic text and icons
  • Choice of different map styles (global, local where available)

Address look-up

  • Single point of access to Multimap's global address search capability

Routing

  • Point-to-point and multiple via point, walking and driving directions
  • Multi-language directions
  • Multi-modal routing (e.g., drive to here, then walk to here) and avoid specific road types
  • Choice of outputs (text, highlight, 'expense claim', summary)

Global coverage

  • Street-level coverage of Western Europe, North America, parts of Eastern Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and parts of Asia
