Microsoft® MapPoint Web Service

Multimap has added Microsoft® MapPoint Web Services to its service portfolio, to provide customers and prospects with a broader range of services.

The MapPoint Web Service is Microsoft's hosted platform for integrating maps, driving directions, proximity search, geocoding and other location-based functionality into applications and business processes. The MapPoint services complement Multimap's own services, and provide customers who are already working with MapPoint with a straightforward path to integrating Microsoft's mapping with Multimap's industry-leading customer service and support.

The MapPoint Web Service is integrated with Microsoft .NET, a set of Microsoft software technologies for connecting information, people, systems and devices. Microsoft .NET enables a high level of software integration through the use of web services; those customers who are already running a .NET environment are able to extend those services to their online storefinders and other location-oriented applications.

Following is an example of the service implemented by Natuzzi.

To see another example, please click on the link below.

1. Features

  • Natuzzi, the popular Italian furniture design company, uses Multimap's Storefinder service to enable users to find their nearest Natuzzi stockists.
  • The user enters his/her street, town, or postal (ZIP) code to access a list of the nearest (e.g., 3, 5 or 10) locations. He/she clicks on the 'Map' link for a listing of interest. The service delivers a MapPoint map with stockists' locations labelled as numbered icons.
  • The user can zoom in/out, and pan N,S,E,W.
  • This service is available at street-level in most countries.

2. Travel Directions Service

  • Natuzzi has also implemented MapPoint's Travel Directions service to provide users with a step-by-step route planner.
  • The trail of the route is highlighted on the map, and step-by-step text instructions detail motorways, junctions and streets.
  • Distance and time for journey are calculated.
  • This service is available in most countries.

Implementation

With the flexibility afforded by MapPoint's Soap/XML interface, Multimap enables enterprises to incorporate maps, driving directions, proximity searching and POIs (Point of Interest) into a wide range of applications, and provides fast, flexible and scaleable integration of location information for web or wireless platforms.
