Storefinder Service

Storefinder is a "where's my nearest?" search that allows users to enter a postal (or ZIP) code, address, or placename to view their nearest stores or outlets as icons on a map. It works from your company's own database of locations, is quick to implement, and is available for most countries via both XML and HTML. Searches can be refined by product type or other criteria. Following is an example of the service implemented by Tesco.

1: Storefinder Search

• User enters details of his/her location, and opts to see the results according to distance, store type, services available or items stocked (e.g., petrol station, deli counter, clothing and fish counter).
• Even more filters could be added, e.g., "Find only those stores open on a Sunday," or, "with disabled facilities."
• An overview map can be added easily; users can click on this map to view the location of nearby stores.

2: Regional Results

• The nearest (e.g., 3, 5 or 10) stockists/stores are listed.
• Details, such as addresses, telephone numbers and opening times are displayed.
• Distance from the user's location is calculated (to the nearest 0.1 mile/km).

3: Local Results

• The user's preferred store is displayed on a separate map.
• Users can pan N,S,E,W and zoom in/out.
• Local information about store features, such as 24-hour opening and baby changing facilities, can also be shown.
• The page is printer-friendly.
