Join Us: Perl Developer

The Multimap Product Development team creates and maintains a number of software products for our customers, and for internal use. We are currently looking for a software engineer who has strong Perl coding skills to develop enhancements to our current B2B products, such as our industry-leading Storefinder service; create new products; and document these products and enhancements. The successful candidate will be a team player with good communication, writing skills and problem-solving skills, and be quick to learn about new technologies.

The role involves:
  • Designing and implementing products and product enhancements
  • Software bug fixes
  • Participating in, and assisting with the creation of, development department processes such as software release, code review, architecture and design, and unit testing
  • Creating and maintaining product development technical documentation.
Candidate Requirements:
  • Thorough understanding of standard software engineering and design principles
  • Familiarity with standard software engineering processes
  • Experience with software configuration management and a sound understanding of the benefits
  • Strong Perl coding ability (procedural Perl and OO Perl)
  • Familiar with the Perl debugger and CPAN
  • MySQL database experience (ideally Oracle as well)
  • Experience developing high-performance software under Linux
  • Good at problem solving, having a methodical and thorough approach to work
  • Good inter-personal, team working and written communication
  • Experience with collaboration systems such as TWiki (or similar such as Lotus Notes)
  • Familiar with HTML, XML, XSLT, Schemas, DTDs, Web Services, SOAP and WSDL
  • Apache web server configuration and maintenance
  • Excellent track record of meeting project deadlines
Desirable:
  • Other European languages.
