Join Us: Service Delivery Engineer

The Multimap Service Delivery team designs, builds and maintains an integrated global network of server farms in the US, the UK and Australia to deliver fast, high-availability internet mapping services around the world. We are now seeking to expand the London-based team. The successful candidate will be a team player with good communication, writing and problem-solving skills, and who is quick to learn new technologies.

The role:

As a Service Delivery Engineer at Multimap you will be expected to design, plan, specify, develop, install, test, roll out, monitor, maintain and document all parts of the Multimap service delivery architecture. Focusing on quality and high availability through resilient architectures, your key responsibilities at Multimap will include:

• Helping maintain and build Multimap's server farms around the globe
• Ensuring high service availability through good engineering and design
• Measuring and reporting service availability and performance against SLA targets
• Capacity planning
• Participate in a 24x7 out-of-hours rota
• Designing, implementing and disseminating service delivery processes and best practices
• Streamlining installation and roll-out procedures

Requirements:

• BSc or BA in computer science or a related technical field
• 2-5 years experience as a Linux Systems Administrator within a volume or critical production service environment and a good working knowledge of networking
• Thorough understanding of one or more of the following:
• Linux - (knowledge of Kickstart a distinct advantage)
• Apache - (mod_rewrite/mod_ssl a distinct advantage)
• MySQL and/or Oracle (replication a distinct advantage)
• Network equipment (one or more of): Switches, Load Balancers (ServerIronXL a distinct advantage), VPNs / Firewalls
• Knowledge of Linux security
• Perl and bash scripting ability
• Good SQL ability
• Good understanding of TCP/IP ( netmasks, basic-routing, NAT, etc.)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, a methodical and thorough approach, good at problem solving and enjoy working as part of a team

Desirable:

• Experience of working with ISPs / Data Centers
• Experience of tools such as Nagios / MRTG / Zabbix / SNMP
• Knowledge of capacity planning methods
• Experience of source code control systems, e.g., cvs (Perforce a distinct advantage)
• Knowledge of software engineering
• Experience of using collaboration systems (Wikis, etc.)
