Multimap Announces Important Deal with UK Online at The Government Computing Exhibition and Conference 2004,
London
Multimap.com, Europe's leading online mapping company, announced the deployment of its online mapping services
for UK Online at The Government Computing Exhibition and Conference 2004, Earls Court, London, on 22 June. UK Online,
which aims to give internet access and advice to people across the UK who would not otherwise have it, has deployed
Multimap’s location-based services to enable its users to quickly find the nearest UK Online centre matching their language,
personal and technical requirements. Users can search for their nearest centre with facilities such as hearing loops,
disabled toilets and crèche; helper skills, e.g., Braille, Chinese and Romanian; software, such as Excel and Photoshop; and
connectivity types, e.g., broadband and ISDN. Users can also choose to search for centres that cater for particular target
audiences such as ethnic minorities, lone parents, over 60s, and the unemployed. The service comprises 6,000 centres across
the UK.
To view their top five nearest centres, visitors to http://www.ufi.com/ukol/ simply enter their town or
postcode, and click on the ‘Search’ button. Multimap delivers a content-rich map showing the exact location of the found
centres as icons. Should users wish to specify language, personal and technical requirements, they click on the ‘Advanced
Search’ link, re-enter their town or postcode, and select their requirement(s) from drop-down lists to access the maps.
Nick Reeve at Multimap, said, “We are delighted to announce our partnership with UK Online. Our services
enable people across the UK to find the way to the nearest centre catering for their specific requirements as quickly as
possible. We are pleased to contribute to such a useful, community-spirited, and valuable service.”
Angela Richards of UK online centres, commented, “There are over 6000 UK online centres in the UK and
Multimap’s services represent an extremely useful tool helping people find their nearest suitable centres. It’s particularly
important that the search process be straightforward given that many of our users are not internet-savvy, so Multimap was
the obvious choice; our users access detailed maps in just three simple steps.“
